Types of UPVC Door Handles
It is crucial to select the correct replacement handle made of upvc for your home if your handles are in need of replacement. A locksmith can supply and fit high-security uPVC handles with extra security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Take these measurements to make sure the new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rod that pivots around an object. When you apply force to the end, the fulcrum will move in the direction of the force is applied. This motion increases the force and allows you to lift or move things that normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The mechanical advantage increases as the lever is extended. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the point at which you are applying force by distance between fulcrum point and the end of the lever.
Levers also have various effects based on the way in which forces are applied. A lever in class 2, for example is prone to rotating in the opposite direction when the effort force is applied. If you push the door handle, the forces will produce rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by making a small amount effort applied over a long distance into a greater amount of force applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport massive quantities of cargo. This is also the reason behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools, such as crowbars and fishing rods, claws for hammers and even your legs when you sit on the hand brakes of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes, and are suitable for a variety of materials including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the outer and inner door, with screws and spindles included. They are also available in both handed and unhandled versions to suit different types of users.
They are typically used for new builds and can be installed to replace doors made of upvc. The levers are lifted to open the multipoint locks, and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide additional security compared to traditional lever door handles because the locking function is only accessible from the inside with a key unless the door is deadlocked.
They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt but are a reasonable alternative to add security. The only drawback is that they do not offer the same level of protection as a cylinder lock, and so don't prevent external access to the home when the door is left open.
The majority of the lever pad door handles made of upvc that we have in stock are manufactured by the top manufacturers in the industry and are made from high quality components. They also come with a manufacturer's warranty.
Typically, they are designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version of this called a Paddock lock. They will feature an 82mm cylinder centre on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some are supplied with the backplate inserted, while others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches, the simplest of all door handles, are used. The lever is pulled down to activate a simple latch inside the door, which can be locked using keys. Some lever privacy handles operate in the same way, but with a second knob, similar to the doorknob.
A snib-button can be extremely useful, particularly for homes where it's crucial to maintain privacy or security. If your partner arrives home late from work, you can use the snib button to ensure that they aren't allowed in until they're ready to come in. This type handle is also used in doors that are inside, such as bedrooms, where you might require a lock to prevent access from the outside.

In some instances there are instances where snib buttons could cause issues, especially if you have older locks and doors that are warped. If the snib button was accidentally pressed, or by someone who is not familiar with it, the door may be slammed and you locked out. It is possible to gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. However this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC door is equipped with a snib-button, we recommend replacing the handle with a modern E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These smart locks can be retrofitted onto double turn pull handle kits. They come with coverplates to hide holes that are already present for an easy installation. The E-LOK uses a smart app to enable you to unlock the door with mechanical keys or RFID cards and can be configured with passcodes for safe entry and convenience. The system has been tested for 200,000 cycles in order to ensure durability. The handles themselves are constructed with a solid metal construction and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a popular handle style for front doors. It comes with the benefit of preventing the door from being opened by the outside without a key, if the lock is not deadlocked. This is accomplished by using a 'pad-shaped' external handle that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.
This type of handle is designed for uPVC doors with multipoint locks that operate with split spindle operations. This kind of operation requires that the lever handle and the external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. It could be a simple replacement for the current uPVC handle, but it could also require a new lock case or a new set of handles to handle furniture.
